Medical Waste
(Revised 14May99 at 18:45)

Twelve or More Reasons Why Hospitals Should Use
Plasma-Based Pyrolysis/Vitrification Technology
(HI's PBPV System)
To Dispose of Problematic Waste Streams

  1. The credo of all doctors and the medical community is "First Do No Harm". Hospitals using incinerators or other short-term technologies that emit harmful gases into our air, along with ash or trash that goes to our landfills does, and will "do harm" to future generations. The medial community should consider "First Do No Harm" when it decides how to cost-effectively dispose of waste streams.

  2. Outsourcing your red bag and other problematic waste streams to HI's facility will provide a safer environment for all hospital personnel, patients and the community.

  3. Eliminates large capital outlay required for risky short-lived incinerator retro-fit kits. No need to purchase risky, questionable less effective alternative technologies to treat medical waste. Saving your hospital from $250,000 to $1,500,000.

  4. Incineration is a compromise technology. No matter what is done to an incinerator, it is still an incinerator. All incinerators, even with Best Available Control Technology, emit toxic air contaminants including dioxins and furans. These emission levels are usually unacceptable and unwelcome in most communities, even when upgraded incinerators are operating properly.

  5. Upgrading an incinerator to meet the new/current EPA regulations does not guarantee a solution or a complete lifecycle. Current environmental regulations will eventually be strengthened to meet the new "Best Available" technological standards such as HI's PBPV System. Costing the hospital additional dollars later.

  6. Eliminates potential and inherent hazards in the operation of incinerators and other outdated waste disposal systems.

  7. Improve the utilization of hospital assets such as; floor space, manpower and utility resources. The hospitals overall cost of operation and expense per square foot/per bed will be reduced, improving the bottom line.

  8. Eliminates doctor and hospital long term (in perpetuity) liability, thereby reducing all future liability insurance costs. Potentially saving the hospital thousands of dollars annually.

  9. Note: Doctors and hospital are responsible for their waste streams "from-the-cradle-to-the-grave". Toxic gases and other remaining residue, such as ruble and ash, are by-products of incinerators and lesser technologies. These by-products remain in our environment along with the potential liability to the waste generator for many years.

  10. No more incinerator regulations, maintenance, operations, inspectors or permitting expenses to deal with. Eliminating long-term potential liabilities, administrative paperwork, permitting and consulting fees.

  11. Hospitals will have a financial incentive to do a better job of separating regular waste from red bag waste. Why pay from 7 to 15 cents per pound to process regular waste? Segregation or sorting of red-bag waste is a more effective method of dealing with the problem. Saving the hospital from 20% to 50% on red-bag disposal.

  12. HI will provide transportation in the central Indiana area or you can direct your transporter to deliver the waste to HI’s facility in Indianapolis – HI will supply bags, boxes and carts. Saving the hospital from purchasing & inventorying these supplies.

  13. HI's System is cost-effective, environmentally correct and promotes a positive environmental image to your patients and the community.

The facts are, HI’s PBPV System is:

      1. The safest and most complete method of waste disposal …
      2. The only technology that eliminates all the waste processed …
      3. The only environmentally sustainable technology …
      4. Ultimately, the most cost effective technology …
      5. The most effective solution to your waste disposal problem ...

Short-term technologies such as incinerators, autoclaves, microwaves, chemical or thermal-radio waves can not compete with the total destruction provided by HI's System.

HI's System can process all hospital, pharmaceutical and problematic waste streams, such as: pathological (body parts), cytotoxic (chemotherapy drugs) and photochemicals ...
