PEAT, inc.

PEAT, inc., (PEAT) is a privately owned company, incorporated in the State of Alabama. Formally, Plasma Energy Applied Technology, Inc., established in 1991, as a wholly-owned subsidiary of a much larger private engineering/manufacturing company, the Mason & Hanger-Silas Mason Company, Inc. The company was formed to develop and commercialize a plasma heating system for the destruction of certain waste steams.

PEAT is an environmental technology company engaged in the commercialization and marketing of its proprietary TDR system. As per a licensee agreement between PEAT and HI Disposal Systems, HI calls its system a "Plasma-Based Pyrolysis/Vitrification" System or "HI's PBPV System". PEAT’s TDR and HI’s PBPV System is a one-step process capable of sustaining extremely high temperatures (up to 3500 degrees Fahrenheit in the processing chamber) that utilizes a plasma arc torch to reduce a wide variety of hazardous and non-hazardous liquid and solid waste materials to their basic compounds or elements. The process reformulates these elements into one or more of three useful by-products: a synthetic gas (syngas) usable as a fuel or chemical feedstock, metals that can be reused, and a glass-like, vitrified solid that may be used as an aggregate, poured into molds to make various re-saleable items or safely disposed of in a landfill. PEAT and HI-IN believes that TDR/PBPV System is an environmentally-sound waste treatment solution suited for medical and hazardous waste streams that pose significant treatment and disposal difficulties and therefore have higher associated processing costs.

A pilot TDR System was built and the TDR Process was developed. This system was and continues to be used to refine the now patented TDR Process and for conducting tests in support of customer's permitting activities (such as those for Kaiser Permanente Hospitals who was ultimately granted a permit to construct a 1,000 pound per hour TDR-MED System at their facility in San Diego). The TDR Demonstration System has also been used to perform paid feasibility studies for governmental customers including the Departments of Energy and Defense (DoE/DoD).

PEAT has received certification by the California State Department of Health Services as an approved alternative technology for the treatment of medical waste. After studying PEAT’s TDR process, the Air Pollution Control District of San Diego issued a permit to construct a TDR System. PEAT is actively engaged in permitting activities in Washington State for a Low-Level Medical Waste (LLMW) system and in Virginia for a hazardous chemical portable waste system for the Army. PEAT has developed mathematical process models to project the TDR gasification of municipal and refinery (asphalt) waste and assisted in a feasibility study for a 300 ton per day gasification project to produce a syngas as feedstock for chemical production.

PEAT has obtained a patent for "Apparatus and Method for Treating Hazardous Waste", along with various other international patents in process, to protect the proprietary and unique process that it has developed. PEAT is also in the process of applying for a second patent.

PEAT, inc. (a technology company) and HI Disposal Systems, LLC (a marketing company) have entered into a license agreement for certain waste streams.
